The Veolia group aims to become the global benchmark for ecological transformation. With more than 218,000 resourcers on five continents, the company designs and implements water, waste and energy management solutions that contribute to the sustainable development of cities and industries. Through its three complementary activities, Veolia contributes to developing access to resources, preserving available resources and renewing them.
In 2023, the Veolia group served 113 million people with drinking water and 103 million with wastewater services, produced nearly 42 terawatt hours and recovered 63 million metric tons of waste. Veolia Environnement (Paris Euronext: VIE) generated consolidated sales of €45.3 billion in 2023.
Highlights 2023
Today, natural resources are becoming increasingly scarce, while our needs are growing in a world that is becoming more and more populated, urbanised and faced with climate change.
People must radically rethink their relationship with resources and invent a new model of economic and social development that is more efficient, more balanced and more sustainable. An expert in water, energy and waste management for 160 years, Veolia puts its capacity for innovation at the service of human progress, the performance of companies and regions, and the well-being of people.
To move from a logic of resource consumption to a logic of use and recovery in an economy that has become circular, we design and deploy solutions to develop access to resources, preserve them and renew them.
This is how Veolia wishes to contribute to the collective success of the ECOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATION.
Developing access to resources
In a world where needs are growing while the planet's reserves are becoming increasingly scarce, access to essential resources is becoming more complex and a source of tension.
In response to these challenges, Veolia is developing sustainable solutions to provide as many people as possible with the resources they need to ensure their well-being, the attractiveness of their regions and the performance of their companies: access to drinking water and energy services for towns and their inhabitants, services for industrial companies to ensure continuous supply to production processes, and recycling of materials from the circular economy.
Preserving resources
In the face of increasing pressure on resources, it is our collective responsibility to conserve and protect them. Resources that are consumed less, used better and degraded less are all new resources made available for the future.
Veolia is developing innovative and sustainable solutions to extract the right resource at the right place, at the right time and using the right process, while respecting the balance of ecosystems to guarantee future withdrawals. Our expertise enables us to optimise the use of these resources, to ensure that nothing is lost throughout the cycle of their use and to control their downstream impacts in order to guarantee their neutrality for health and the natural environment.
Renewing resources
By reinventing its businesses, Veolia makes it possible to create new ‘secondary’ resources, which gradually compensate for the increasing scarcity of ‘primary’ natural resources.
Thanks to innovations in materials recycling and waste recovery, Veolia is deploying solutions that considerably increase the lifespan and value in use of the resources it collects.
To complete the circle of the circular economy, Veolia is developing its expertise in eco-design by supporting producers from the development of production processes through to the production of new materials from transformed waste.
Finally, in each of its business lines, and even more so at their interfaces, Veolia produces entirely new resources: the heat released by an industry becomes heating for homes, wastewater effluent becomes fertilizer or bioplastics, the gases emitted by waste treatment become electricity or biofuels...
Asset management and industrial and tertiary maintenance with Veolia
In order to guarantee the continuity and efficiency of each effective operation, it is essential to manage assets (property assets, production support services, energy services) and carry out regular maintenance. Veolia has entities dedicated to equipment and infrastructure maintenance (hard facility management services). This maintenance ensures that they function properly and last for a long time:
- Preventive maintenance: the aim is to avoid breakdowns and downtime on the production line and to optimise equipment.
- Corrective maintenance: this enables necessary repairs to be carried out quickly and minimises supply interruptions.
Veolia Industries: ethics and legal compliance
Veolia Industries Global Solutions provides an overview of each company's performance by drawing up comprehensive balance sheets. This enables it to adjust its strategies in line with market needs. Veolia Industries Global Solutions also ensures that its operations comply with local regulations.
Innovation and engineering with Veolia
Innovation is at the heart of Veolia's priorities. All the teams dedicated to this research and development division work to develop new sustainable solutions and improve operational processes in the industrial and tertiary sectors.
